Harrison Maurus (77) is back on the wagon!
After setting the Youth World Record of 192kg and the senior national record by 2kg, beating Chad Vaughn's record, Harrison is back lifting heavy things.
Since Chad Vaughn's peak came to an end, USA has lacked big clean and jerkers in the 77s. Tatum was always a great snatcher and Angelo similarly had a snatch on him but suffered in the clean and jerk. The one guy who seemed like he might be able to strip Chad of the record was Travis Cooper, who even took at shot at it a couple of years ago.
But finally Harrison Maurus, the most unassuming of lifters, has taken it for himself. What is cool about this was that Harrison was clearly going for the youth world record held by Jason Lopez at 191kg, and just happened to, in the process, take the senior American record as well.
At only 17 years of age, Harrison has so much more in him. I can only imagine what he might hit one day. If he stays on track I see no reason he cannot take Rahimov's 214kg world record. Or perhaps he will move up to the 85s. Whatever he chooses, I back him all the way...
