Pakistan’s 67kg youth sensation Talha Talib snatched an unofficial Junior World Record of 143kg at the Quaid-e-Azam provincial championships. The technique, speed, and depth of the young 19 year old is extremely impressive and predictive of exciting things to come. The current holder of the Junior World Record is Uzbekistan’s Adkhamjon Ergashev who made 142kg at the Qatar cup Dec ’18 where he placed second. Talha is a snatch specialist and was by age 18 already a Pakistani national champion.
The only potential issue with this lift? It might be a butt-touch! The technical and competition rules state that ‘No part of the body other than the feet may touch the platform during the execution of the lift.’ Rule 2.4.2 states that an incorrect movement counts as ‘Touching the platform with any part of the body other than the feet.’ Occasionally athletes are able to escape the strict enforcement of this law.
This 143kg snatch is already a 7kg improvement on his 136kg competition record snatch that he hit just one month prior at the World Islamic Solidarity Championships (shown below). You can also check out his 130kg x 2 snatch here, and his 155kg clean & squat jerk here.
Talha Talib is the Gold Coast 2018 (XXI Commonwealth Games) bronze medalist in the 62kg class where he set a games record snatch of 132kg and a 151kg clean & jerk. He is also the 2016 Commonwealth Youth champion.
