2019 Fajr Cup in Tehran - Weightlifting Olympic Qualification

Fajr Cup 2019 – Start List & Schedule

Athletes from twenty nations have registered to compete at the Fajr Cup, which takes place in Tehran from 1st – 5th March 2019.

The Fajr Cup is a silver-level Olympic qualification event, with a 5% Robi point bonus (see our Olympic qualification guide for why this matters)

The event will feature only men, competing in seven weight categories: -61, -67, -73, -81, -96, -109 and +109. As with many smaller international meets several sessions will include two weight classes.

  • Daniyar Ismayilov (TUR -73 kg) 330 kg entry total : 2016 Olympics 2nd, 2016 Europeans 1st, 2015 Europeans 1st, 2015 Worlds 3rd
  • Safaa Rashed Aljumaili (IRQ -81 kg) 350 kg entry total : 2018 Asian Games 1st, 2018 Worlds 8th
  • Nico Muller (GER -81 kg) 345 kg entry total : 2018 Europeans 1st, 2018 Worlds 7th
  • Max Lang (GER -81 kg) 340 kg entry total : 2014 U23 Europeans 2nd
  • Ritvars Suharevs (LAT -81 kg) 347 kg entry total : 2018 Jr Worlds 1st, 4 x European Youth 1st
  • Sohrab Moradi (IRI -96 kg) 400 kg entry total : 2016 Olympics 1st, 2017 & 2018 World 1st, 2018 Asian Games 1st, 2009 & 2012 Asian Championships 1st, World Records – 6. According to Iran Weightlifting Sohrab Moradi is due spinal surgery and will simply be weighing in for this competition as a means of fulfilling part of the 2020 Tokyo qualification procedures.
  • Kianoush Rostami (IRI -96 kg) 380 kg entry total : 2016 Olympics 1st, 2011 & 2014 Worlds 1st, 2016 Fajr Cup 1st (Clean and jerk and total WR), World Records – 3
  • Kia Ghadami (IRI -109 kg) 400 kg entry total : 241 kg clean and jerk, 193 kg snatch
  • Ali Hashemi (IRI -109 kg) 400 kg entry total : 2018 Worlds 1st, 2017 Worlds 1st, 2016 Fajr Cup 2nd
  • Ali Davoudi (IRI -109 kg) 420 kg entry total : 2018 Jr Worlds 1st, 2017 Fajr Cup 1st, Junior World Records – 2 (197 kg snatch, 424 kg total)
