Three time world champion Chen Lijun hit a 180 kg clean and jerk in training, just 3 kg below his competition best. His best of 183 kg came at the 2015 Houston World Championships following a 150 kg snatch as a 62 kg weightlifter. His total of 333 kg from 2015 gave him a Sinclair of 474.8, the 35th highest of all time. That’s one place above Pyrros Dimas!
This 180 kg lift looked far easier than the 182 kg lift that he made in Ashgabat at the 2018 World Championships where he missed 185 kg on his third attempt. If we see him at the 2019 Asian Weightlifting Championships next month I expect we will see a new clean and jerk world record from Chen Lijun. He currently holds the 67 kg world record total at 332 kg, but will need either 154 kg or 185 kg to take individual lift world records.
