The Pakistan Weightlifting Federation has appealed for government funding in order to participate in the 2019 Asian Weightlifting Championships in April.
Two Pakistani weightlifters, Talha Talib and Nooh Dastgir Butt, won bronze medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and have hopes of representing their country at the Olympics. However, they need good performances at big competitions such as the Asian Championships if they are going to earn enough Robi points (see our Tokyo 2020 Qualification Guide for details). They are currently ranked 25th and 46th in their weight categories. A third Pakistani athlete, Haider Ali, is ranked 53rd.
