73 kg junior world record holder CJ Cummings added a further 5 kilos to last week’s performance with this 185 kg clean and two jerks. This lift is just 2 kg under his international personal best, his 187 kg junior world record from the 2018 World Championships in Ashgabat.
At the junior national championships last February CJ hit a personal best in the clean and jerk with 189 kg ‘without a taper’ – Coach Ray Jones. CJ Cummings currently has 969.31 Robi points from his 148/187 kg performance during this first qualifying period. If at the Pan American Championships he is able to hit the 150 kg snatch he attempted recently and a 190 kg clean and jerk which, as evidenced by this post is certainly within his capabilities, he will gain 1018.21 Robi points, enough to remain atop the USA men’s ranking.

CJ Cummings is the 73 kg junior world record holder in the clean and jerk and the total (187/335 kg) from the 2018 World Championships in Ashgabat. CJ is the youth world record holder in the clean and jerk in the older 69 kg weight class (185 kg) which he set at the 2017 Youth World Championships. CJ broke his first senior American record at the age of fourteen – a 153 kg clean and jerk in the 62 kg class – and has gone on to break and set many more. He is a three-time junior world champion (2016–2018) and a senior Pan American silver medalist (2017).
