New IWF guidelines will allow athletes to compete at a different continental championships in April if their own championships are affected by the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.
The ability to switch to a different competition is not automatically granted and is only available to athletes who are:
- Registered for their own continental championships
- Still eligible for Olympic qualification
- In compliance with whereabouts and other anti-doping requirements
- Able to arrange travel and visa to the host country
Requests will be considered by a special working group of senior IWF commission chairs and will also have to be approved by the host country of the competition. However, entry deadlines will be relaxed so we could see changes relatively close to the competitions themselves.
