Oceania Championships Postponed Until Autumn

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak, the Oceania Weightlifting Federation has taken the decision to postpone the 2020 Oceania Weightlifting Championships and Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, most likely to September or October.

Moving the competitions to the autumn means they will fall outside of Olympic qualification.

The following email from the OWF was posted on Reddit:

Subject: Oceania and Commonwealth Championships
Date: Saturday, 14 March 2020

Dear Friends,

With the current situation with the Covid-19 virus and many more countries applying lockdown to their borders, the OWF Executive Board and the Organising Committee, has agreed that we postpone the Oceania Championship and Commonwealth Championships to later in the year. Most likely to around September or October. However we will confirm the exact date in due course.

The OWF has held on long enough to give the chance to our lifters that much needed gold and silver qualification event for Tokyo and also in fairness to the host country Nauru.

The situation is getting worse and not better at this point. Therefore we can no longer wait and the decision has been made in the interest of the health and safety of all concerned.

We have advised the IWF of this decision.

We will keep in touch throughout this unpredictable time.

In the meantime we wish you well and please stay safe.
