Speakers and Sessions

Elite Athlete

Olympic Champion Maude Charron (CAN -64kg) began competing internationally in 2016. Five years later and she had climbed the rankings to number one in the world with an Olympic gold medal around her neck to prove it.

Rapid success like Maude has delivered doesn’t come purely from talent – hard work along with the right habits and behaviours are essential to maintain progress. 

Maude will be sharing the strategies, methods, and planning that took her from CrossFit athlete to Olympic Champion.

Recovery

Dr. Sam Spinelli is Weightlifting House’s ‘go to’ when it comes to training outside of training, meaning everything recovery. 

Sam will talk about on the 80/20 principle for weightlifting recovery, sharing his data-driven insights into which recovery methods will provide the biggest bang for your buck, and which are worth avoiding. If you only have 30 minutes per day to dedicate to recovery it’s important to know what is most beneficial.

Sam is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, a strength coach, and a co-founder of Citizen Athletics and E3Rehab.

Nutrition

Having published multiple peer reviewed articles in exercise science and nutrition journals, few are better equipped to talk to weightlifters about maximising their nutrition than Dr. Eric Helms.

‘How to Maximise Strength Gain Through Proper Nutrition When Moving Up a Weight Category’ – Eric will be using his vast sports nutrition knowledge to boil down the specifics of effective weight gain, looking at the non-negotiables, as well as the individual differences, and how to maximise those differences.

Eric is a Doctor of Strength and Conditioning, a coach, athlete, author, educato (focusing specifically on drug-free athletes), and works at 3DMJ.

Elite Athlete

Jourdan Delacruz is one of USAW’s most successful weightlifters ever. At the time of writing, Jourdan holds six American records, is a two-time Pan-American Championships winner, and competed at the 2020 Olympic Games.

Jourdan is a particularly analytical weightlifter, focused on movement perfection and targeting any weaknesses with deliberate work. As a result, Jourdan has developed arguably the best technique in the USA that has allowed her to set records and win major international meets.

Jourdan’s best lifts as a 49kg weightlifter are 89kg in the snatch and 111kgin the clean and jerk, and as 55kg lifter are 91kg in the snatch and 116kg in the clean and jerk.

Elite Athlete

2020 Olympian and 2018 Commonwealth Games champion David Liti began competing over ten years ago, rising from a relatively average beginner weightlifter to the strongest weightlifter in Oceana.

 

David will be answering your questions about his career, focusing on the mindset that allowed him to break through the many barriers that obstructed him, and the tools that he and his coach, Tina Ball, implemented for his success.

 

David Liti has competition bests of 178kg in the snatch, 236kg in the clean and jerk, and 414kg in the total.  

Habit Formation

Hugh Gilmore is a Performance Psychologist and cohost of the Eighty Percent Mental podcast. Early on in his career Hugh worked as a coach and coach developer in weightlifting, but since moved on to performance psychology in performance environments. He has worked with Olympians and World Champions, including the 2016 British Weightlifting team. 

Hugh set up his consultancy, Podium Psychology, where he focuses on Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.

Hugh will be speaking with us about habit formation and implementation, focusing on the techniques that can be used to form and then solidify productive training and lifestyle habits conducive to improved performance.
