The Glenn Pendlay Method

Glenn Pendlay is arguably the most successful and influential coach in the history of weightlifting in the USA. He produced over a hundred national champions from youth to senior level, as well as multiple Pan American Championships and Games medalists.

In this 216-page book, Seb Ostrowicz, the founder of Weightlifting House, describes in detail Glenn’s philosophy and practice of weightlifting coaching. Along with ideas from Glenn’s writings and the many podcasts they recorded together, Seb shares his personal insights into Glenn’s unique approach.

The book will take you from the three pillars that Glenn held to be fundamental to weightlifting training, to the specifics of methods that he applied while working with athletes.

Fundamentally, this book is educational, explaining and analysing the methods that Glenn used to develop such incredible lifters as frequently as he did.

Whether you are a coach or an athlete, this book is filled with valuable information that will make you think about how you can do things better.

When I first considered the possibility of writing a book about weightlifting, I decided I definitely wanted it to be something that a total beginner could read and feel comfortable with. Feel like he or she could apply the information directly to planning the next workout, or week of workouts, and actually have an understanding of the process of developing a training process, and training. Demystify the process, so to speak. Glenn Pendlay (September 2012 blog)

In this book I hope to have done as Glenn had always aimed to do, and create as accurate and detailed a description of the Pendlay method as possible, ensuring it not only makes sense to the beginner who is eager to understand the formulation and evolution of a training programme across time, but also to the advanced coaches and athletes who want to challenge and push themselves to understand the intricacies that make good athletes exceptional.’ – Seb Ostrowicz

Best Weightlifting Book i’ve read! Breaks down the method in a way that’s digestible for everyone.

  2. Brian Chambers

Best weightlifting book ever! If Catalyst’s Weightlifting Encyclopedia is everything you COULD know about Weightlifting, The Glenn Pendlay Method breaks down and simplifies, to provide everything you NEED to know about weightlifting.

After reading this, it helped solidify my beliefs in coaching methodology, and through that, I have coached one athlete to make an international team for Team USA, and several State Champions, and State records. Thanks for writing this Seb!

Readability is 10/10. I’m not much of a reader, but the first day I had a copy, I gladly sunk a couple hours into it, and have been reading a couple chapters every day since then.
As someone green to weightlifting, it’s really informative, and the information selected seems to have been well filtered, since I can’t spot anything irrelevant or unnecessary.
Simething to note is that reading this book alongside Pendlay’s blog adds quite a bit to both.
I’m only about 3 quarters of the way through, but if it keeps this up, the rating definitely will remain.

  4. Ty Snipes

This is a great read. At the time I read it, I had just finished several other fundamental weightlifting books (Takano, Everett), and this one stood out to me as the best among them. Very enjoyable and insightful.

An easy to read book that every weightlifter and coach should read. There are years of experience shared in the book that are priceless… the book is worth every cent!

  6. Jason Sisti (verified owner)

This book is incredible. Hands down the best, most easily digestible weightlifting book I’ve ever read. As a weightlifter that watched the old daily and weekly MDUSA videos, I cant help but read parts of this book in Glenn’s voice. Seb, truly appreciate the work you’ve done to put this all together. I’m 10 years in the sport of weightlifting and still learned new things from this book, I couldn’t reccomend it more!
